Ysanne and Peter had these old armchairs that were left from Ysanne’s grandad. The armchairs were comfortable and structurally fine so they just wanted to give them a second life buy having the patchwork magic done to them. Peter had already painted the wooden parts in a nice mat white.
Ysanne showed me some photos of her patio and we also talked about the color-scheme she had in mind. They dropped them off to me in Brighton so it was left to me to sort out the rest. I mainly used off-cuts I had from other upholstery projects and vintage curtains I sourced form Shabitat.
Pretty pleased with the outcome I have to say. And so were Ysanne and Peter.

Another festival summer marathon has come to an end! What a great adventure that was. Boy am I exhausted though! Meadowlands, Sunrise, Patchfest, Secret Garden Party, Bimble Bandada, Wilderness, Give!, Brunswick and Bestival. Phew!
The highlight this year (from a work perspective) I guess is that we now have our own marquee to trade from.Yay! Of course its a lot more work with the set up etc but its so worth it. Even though its nice to share a big space and meet other traders its still nicer to have your own.

Meadowlands was our test run. A small festival situated a few miles from Brighton. We had a chance to do a local set up and see what we needed to sort out before our long season ahead. Sunrise festival was a first for us this year. Really nice vibes plus the sun was out but nowhere near enough people. Such a shame. SGP had much better weather this year. What a difference it makes with a bit of sunshine. Oh Bimble Bandada! What a perfectly formed little festival. Only two small stages and nothing but amazing musicians. Super local too! Highly recommended. Wilderness and Bestival we did with the Secret Emporium again. Which worked out great as at that point we were running low on our stock to fill a 6 by 4 meter marquee.
Its been a good season and I’m glad I did try them all, but wow such hard work. Not sure I will be doing all 9 of those festivals again next year.. Maybe just 5 or 6 but lets not make any promises, who knows what will happen then. Oh and the best bit, is to be back in my own bed….

I love making my patchwork upholstery chairs, but its time to move onto something different so I wanted to reupholster an old wing-back chair. We get them in at Shabitat fairly often. As all materials I use are reclaimed or end of roll, I never get big enough pieces to cover one large item. But instead of the patchwork approach I wanted to use a different colour for each panel of the chair. Velvet curtains were my answer. Soft, mat and durable.
I have lost count on how many hours it took to finish but I’m quite pleased with the outcome!
UPDATE!
Here it is in its new home. That only took 2 days!

Oh the English language! Sometimes so rich with its vocabulary and diversity in words, and sometimes just so limiting. When you say trousers I think of something fairly formal or plain or maybe a pair of jeans at a push.(Even though jeans are jeans right?) When you say pants I think of underwear-knickers- as I live in the UK. So what do you call them when they are casual, comfortable hippy pants? Sorry trousers just doesn’t sound right. I want to call them slacks! I know what slacks are. They are trousers. So lets call slacks trousers and funky printed comfy slackers trousers slacks. Deal? Thanks.
Here are some slacking slacks I have been making. They are unisex. Sorry guys no pictures yet but will post some up soon as soon as I can find a model. All upcycled from 80’s-90’s bed-sheets and curtains. All one of a kind or super limited edition.

My good friends Dan and Millie are about to have a baby. Consequently they are going to need a nursing chair. Fortunately they had found an armchair that they found comfortable but needed recovering. Millie had these fab pair of curtains that she wanted to re-purpose so all that was left to me was to put the pieces together. I think little D is going to approve.
