Velvet Wing Back Armchair

I love making my patchwork upholstery chairs, but its time to move onto something different so I wanted to reupholster an old wing-back chair. We get them in at Shabitat fairly often. As all materials I use are reclaimed or end of roll, I never get big enough pieces to cover one large item. But instead of the patchwork approach I wanted to use a different colour for each panel of the chair.  Velvet curtains were my answer. Soft, mat and durable.

I have lost count on how many hours it took to finish but I’m quite pleased with the outcome!

UPDATE!

Here it is in its new home. That only took 2 days!

2012 Festival Season

Wow what a summer!! Old friends, new friends, dancing, some more dancing, crazy antics, rain, mud, sun and lots of dressing up. What was the highlight you ask? Too many to mention.

I had been wanting to check out Secret Garden Party for a long time as I had heard so many good things about it over the last few years. I had a stall within The Secret Emporium which is an independent designers festival outlet at SGP. The weather however wasn’t on our side. We had constant rain and consequentially mud for pretty much everyday until Sunday. But hey! We had fun anyway. Lots of people still wanted to dress up despite the weather. What a cool festival. Definitely going again next year. Fingers crossed for a dry one.

Wilderness Festival in Cornbury Park- Oxfordshire. What a stunning location. Being able to go swimming in a clean lake at a festival is definitely a winner.

I had never been to the Isle of Wright so that was an adventure in itself even before getting to Bestival. Huge site with hills!  The sun was out all weekend too. Great line -up always helps.

Playgroup Festival got postponed to mid September this year. It’s small festival based in East Sussex beaming with creativity. No need to say a lot of fun was had by all…

I didn’t take a lot of photos (none from Wilderness!) which is a sign I was obviously having too much of a good time. Anyway, here is a few…

Patchwork Tub Chair Upholstery

More patchwork chairs you say? Lynn was so pleased with her two matching deep button armchairs that she wanted me to make her another two! Plus a footstool.

These are the same shape as my usual tub chairs, so they didn’t take too long to cover.

And here they all are in their home. Happy customers!

Customised Denim Shorts

The classic festi staple is a pair of denim shorts. Actually, not just for festivals, they are a great all rounder for anyone’s wardrobe. To make them that little bit more exiting you can customise them by adding detailing like these. Straight forward to do on the sewing machine or even by hand if you don’t have one. All you need is some small fabric scraps, needle and thread. Stick the kettle on and get involved!

Summer Collection

Ethnic Prints and Folky Fabrics.

For the summer I wanted to create a collection that was vibrant and casual but using some more traditional fabrics. The lovely Chloe is my model and the award winning Naomi from Namnam’s did the face painting.

South American Cloth.

This was a table runner that became this easy fit dress.

African Print.

This lovely piece of fabric was used as a curtain by my ex housemate Rebecca. When she moved out I re-purposed it into an A-line dress. Apparently the print is for a women’s vote  campaign.

Baggy Trousers.

This fabric was salvaged from a pair of trousers that I unpicked. I love the vibrant colours of this print.

Indian Embroidery.

This piece of cloth just came to me, like most bits of fabric do. Not sure if it used to be anything in a previous life.  There was just enough to make this cheeky number out of it.

Bed Cover.

This was an Indian cotton bed throw that I cut in half and made two dresses from. Boned for extra support.
